Fire at Mohali Garbage Dump: Is This How We Handle Waste in India?
Published on April 26, 2025 | By Urban Sewak Team
Today, our Urban Sewak team came across a shocking and dangerous sight — a large fire engulfing a garbage dump in Sector 80, Mohali. Thick smoke and burning waste were polluting the air, creating health hazards for nearby residents and causing further environmental damage.
Despite the ongoing efforts of sanitation workers, waste continues to pile up in many parts of the city. What’s more concerning is that burning this waste seems to have become an unofficial method of “disposal.” This is not only irresponsible but also a direct threat to human health, biodiversity, and climate safety.

We want to ask the authorities loud and clear:
Is burning garbage the solution to India’s waste problem?
Mohali, like many other cities in India, needs urgent and sustainable action in waste management — not shortcuts that put lives at risk.
🟢 Urban Sewak calls for:
Strict action against open waste burning
Implementation of decentralized waste processing units
Awareness drives and community participation
Regular monitoring of dumping zones
We urge our followers, supporters, and fellow citizens to help raise awareness.
